36 weeks

I am officially in the waiting game.  Due to several factors which use unpleasant vocabulary such as "mucus" and "cervical," I will not go into detail.  But my doctor seems to think that Gloria may well try to come early.  She said the way things are looking at my last exam, labor could come tomorrow, or it could come at forty weeks.  There's no telling for sure, but the way things are adding up is pointing to an early delivery date.

We shall see.  Mike's all nervous, but I'm pretty skeptical.  I'm still convinced that I'm going to go past my due date, not before it.  He's washing baby clothes and packing a hospital bag, I'm freaking out because I need these last four weeks, damn it!  I'm not ready!  I'm counting on four more weeks of mental preparation and WHOSE IDEA WAS THIS, ANYWAY??

We're getting old.  I was telling this to Mike in the car the other day.  The transition began a couple of years ago when I started liking dark chocolate.  Dark chocolate is an indulgence of the elderly.  Remember being a kid, when dark chocolate was the evil lurking at the bottom of your Halloween candy bag?

Now age is creeping up on me in other ways.  For one, we're going to be parents.  That's an automatic check-box on the official list of aging.  I get more excited about baking and home decorating than I do about vodka (though a nice blend of the three is perfect).  I go to estate sales and buy rolling pins.  I'm beginning to prefer silence in the car instead of loud music.  Or any music.  I catch myself listening to soft rock more than I'm willing to admit.  And now I like the taste of coffee.  I know, it's pretty depressing.  I used to drink it for the caffeine-induced high and the jitters and the visual halos it created around things.  Now I like the taste.  *sigh*

But on to less depressing topics than my increasing predilection for The Fray over Rage Against the Machine.

Mike and I tried to make these for the nursery last week.

Aren't they cute?  They're just made out of wire, fishing line, and tissue paper.  Let me show you ours.

Yeah.  That look isn't because they've been stepped on.  It's because we're failures.  We ended up buying hanging lanterns instead.  I've been in a craft slump lately.  But don't worry, I plan on redeeming myself with this recipe box I'm working on.  (See?  Old.  Who says something like that??)

And a few photos of the nursery thus far.  But first let's go back to recap the original room.

That's right, remember the shiny blue corners, gross carpet, and chalkboard wall?

Aaaaand, updated!

Michael's bookshelf.

Everything is actually much more sage-green than this, but the paint seems to wash out no matter what camera settings are used.

I found these mirror-birds at Michael's Crafts.

And Michael found the perfect nightlight to go with our plate covers (see below).

Overall, not too bad.  Still needs a few more adjustments to look lived-in and homey, but what an improvement.

  2. Yes, well, clearly there's a reason for that. You've always been a freak.
