Today was the baby shower for my brother-in-law and his wife.  It was SO NICE to get out of the house.

Before Gloria I never understood how parents could talk about their kids constantly.  Ok, I still don't entirely understand, but I do have a new perspective on it now.  When you're mom and dad to a newborn, you need to talk to other parents in order to re-ground yourself.  I've spent the past four weeks under baby lockdown in this house, worrying about baby vomit and dirty diapers and feeding schedules.  Talking to other parents makes you realize that you're not going crazy.  That the stage we're in is actually NORMAL.  That no one goes by the book, so you can stop worrying about every tiny infraction from what you're "supposed" to do.

It also helped that I had three glasses of wine within two-and-a-half hours.

If you're ever looking for free babysitting, go to a large social function.  You won't see your baby the entire time you're there.  I'm going to start crashing weddings whenever I need a break.
