My favorite Sunday night activity is having a couple of beers and playing with ideas for Gloria's first birthday.  It won't be anything huge, just something with family and a couple of friends, but I love to bake and craft and a birthday party is an excellent excuse.  

I inevitably drink too much, get really nostalgic, and sob over old Gloria photos, but that comes later.  

Given that I strongly dislike character themed anything, and really like anything shiny and bright (squirrel!), I'm drawn to the trend of rainbow-themed parties.  

I had big plans for this cake:

Then Gloria's Aunt Mary reminded me that Gloria has dairy allergies and won't be able to eat a "normal" cake.  Ha!  Parenting fail!

So she will get a vegan cupcake and the rest of us will eat wonderful rainbow cow-milk cake.

This past year I oddly fell into a vegan/vegetarian crowd.  I knew I was hanging onto them for something - cake recipes.
